BACKGROUND
KRC- Uganda is in a consortium with 4 partners led by International Rescue Committee(IRC) with funding from Conrad -Hilton foundation. Using the Nurturing care frame work, the consortium will create a two-generation intervention to improve ECD for children aged 5 and below,as well as implement livelihoods interventions with families of these children.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- To empower households with responsive care giving and early learning skills.
- To improve economic wellbeing and household income generation opportunities
PROJECT COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH
Kulea Watoto project by KRC uses the following approach:
Economic recovery and Development (ERD) trainings .to facilitate Mindset Change for a more resilient and financially stable livelihood.
Gender Action and Learning systems (GALs) methodology: including Household Visioning, Household Actions for change and leadership.
Vocational skilling and startup: Caregivers are skilled in a desired skill like tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry to facilitate enterprise startup /employability for income generation.
Agronomic Trainings Proper training and support on livestock production and management, planting techniques, fertilization, and pest/disease management are key to improving vanilla quality and yield. These efforts will enhance productivity and profitability, making vanilla farming more profitable.
VLSA methodology, Financial literacy and linkages. Project clients are supported with VLSA trainings, Kits, registration and also linkage to agro –input dealers and market actors
EXPECTED RESULTS
The expected results (outcomes) are:
- Outcome 1.1. Percentage of caregivers and family members of children 0-3 have increased knowledge, skills, attitudes and actions that promote inclusive, responsive caregiving and play-based early learning behaviors.
- Outcome 1.2. Percentage of caregivers who report increased access to essential ECCD services
- Outcome 2.1: Percentage of Households reporting increased agricultural yields of focused crops or productivity of livestock in selected value chains
- Outcome 2.2: Percentage of Surveyed client households whose monthly household incomes increased from baseline to endline
