Youths are in a critical stage of their lives and are disengaged across the social, economic and civic spheres of their lives. They lack productive resources and vital skills for employment and innovation. As a result, Youth (un)employment remains a crucial development issue as youth face the highest rate of unemployment of 13.3% for youth aged 18-30 years (2020).
In Ugandans, young people are highly likely to be underemployed in precarious and non-rewarding work, or in jobs that cannot offer decent incomes. 83.5% of the Ugandan population aged between 15-29 work in informal jobs, and that figure is 10% higher for young women than men.
KRC established the Youth Hub in 2020 to contribute solutions to youth employment challenges and to coordinate regional youth engagement activities and to provide space for skilling in various youth-friendly trades.
