KRC-UGANDA

Civic Education

Funded by the Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), Enhancing People Power for Transformative Leadership Project was implemented in the 8 districts of Rwenzori region, including Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Kamwenge, Ntoroko, Bundibugyo, Bunyangabu, and Kasese, between 2018 to 2022.

The project addressed citizens’ and leaders’ knowledge gap on civics and rights, equipped change agents and civic educators with engagement skills; and provided the spaces for citizens to demand for accountability in the Rwenzori region.

In the Rwenzori Sub-region, KRC oriented district and sub-county councilors on council rules and procedures, budget and planning processes, as well as conducting annual performance reviews and council self-assessments. This orientation enabled leaders to understand the scope of their mandate and how to adequately execute it. As a result, the councilors made commitments to improve service delivery in crucial sectors such as health, education, agriculture, water and infrastructure. They acted on these commitments by allocating funds in the district and sub-county budgets.
