The biorefinery processes pastures and plant residues into concentrated protein products for livestock and other recyclable by-products for energy and soil fertility enhancement.
It uses locally grown grass and pasture crops to produce protein rich feed for livestock and create new revenue streams for smallholder farmers. The biorefinery is designed to provide a locally sustainable source of protein to substitute more expensive imported concentrates for livestock feed.
The biorefinery project is implemented under the Bio4Africa Consortium funded by EU, comprising 13 partners in Africa and 12 partners in the EU.
The biorefinery provides a broad range of solutions to food security, malnutrition, youth unemployment, besides enabling livestock farmers to improve productivity of their farms, thus producing quality enhanced products for the market. For more information, Download the Bio4Africa brochure
