Children are key targets in influencing behaviour change and improving eating and nutrition habits. As such, KRC through its nutrition programs is exploring different communication pathways to influence the right eating habits of children from the onset. The idea and purpose of targeting children is to give them a substantial head-start in understanding how food systems operate and how unhealthy eating habits are endangering public health and their own lives. KRC is now using puppets to make nutrition knowledge sharing attractive to children. It should be noted that stunting as a result of malnutrition in children under 5 remains the highest in Tooro Sub Region of Western Uganda at 40.6%. This statistic is a big contradiction for, a region that is a renowned food basket. KRC runs a Nutrition Clinic in Fort Portal City that screens children for malnutrition, provides counselling, dietary therapy and collaborates with the Regional Referral Hospital to treat acute malnutrition cases.
