Kabarole research and resource centre has supported 4 youth from Harugongo and Kasenda sub counties to undergo training in banana juice processing. Among the participants was one leading farmer (Mugisa Deo) who is already practicing juice processing but needed to improve on the skills for better quality production.
The youth were trained in; fundamentals of food hygiene, sanitation and design of juice processing facilities and equipment, understanding of Uganda standards on food establishments and premises, hygienic juice preparation, waste management, utilization and recycling, documentation in a juice processing plant, Requirements for UNBS certification of juice products and practical processing of banana juice.
The training enabled participants acquire hands on practical knowledge in banana juice processing. This was conducted to enable value addition to bananas- packaging into juice. This was conducted at TURSAM investments Ltd-the processors of Uhuru fruit juice in Nansana, Wakiso District. The training ended with award of certificates to the participants
